Katsushika Hokusai – October/November 1760 Edo, Japan to Thursday 10 May 1849 Edo, Japan
Japanese Ukiyo-e Printmaker
All of Katsushika Hokusai images in this post are from his series “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji”.
When I first saw this print – Fuji Seen Through the Mannen Bridge at Fukagawa, circa 1830 – the bridge seemed familiar to me, though I have never been to Japan. Then I realized that the Mannen Bridge could be the inspirational source for Claude Monet’s Japanese bridge at Giverny (which I have seen in person). I love the connection from one artist and culture to another!
